Are You Random?

Playable

Two choices. One watching eye. Can you beat the machine?

Are You Random? is a free mind reading game with just two choices: left or right. Try to make an unpredictable sequence while a tiny algorithm learns your habits and guesses what you will press next. A watching eye reacts to every choice, and a ring records all 100 moves.

It sounds easy to be random, but deliberate choices can contain patterns: alternating left and right, repeating a favorite sequence or switching after a long run. This human randomness test turns those habits into a challenge. Your goal is to keep the machine's prediction accuracy below 50%.

Play in your browser on desktop or phone, with no download or account. There is no chatbot behind the eye: the predictor runs locally in the game and starts learning from scratch each round. For more ways your own mind can trip you up, take the cognitive bias quiz or see how your visual memory stacks up.

How to play

Choose Start, then press the left and right arrow keys. You can also use F and J, or tap the left and right halves of the game on a touchscreen.

Make 100 choices in whatever order you like. Each ring mark turns red when the machine guesses correctly and blue when you surprise it. There is no countdown, so you can take your time.

At the end, your percentage is the machine's accuracy, not your own: lower is better. Below 50% means you beat the machine. Choose Again for a fresh round, or Copy to share your result text.

Can humans be truly random?

An even split between left and right is not enough to make a sequence unpredictable. Left, right, left, right contains equal numbers of both choices, yet its next step is easy to guess. The interesting question is not just how often you choose each side, but what you tend to choose after a particular sequence.

Independent fair choices would give a predictor about 50% accuracy on average, but a short round can land above or below that by chance. A score labeled Truly random is a playful game verdict, not proof that your sequence is mathematically random.

A mind reading machine that learns your patterns

The predictor remembers what followed sequences of one to five previous choices. Before each move, it looks for a matching recent pattern and predicts the more frequent next choice. If the longest pattern has no clear answer, it checks shorter ones; if none helps, it guesses randomly.

This is the same broad idea that makes classic mind reading machine games interesting: the machine does not read thoughts. It exploits regularities in the choices you have already made. Every prediction is selected before your next press, and Again clears the learned patterns.

FAQ

What is Are You Random?

It is a free left-or-right prediction game. Make 100 choices and try to stop a pattern-learning algorithm from guessing your next move.

Is a lower score better?

Yes. The percentage shows how many of your choices the machine predicted correctly. Below 50% means you beat the machine in that round.

Does the game use an AI chatbot?

No. A small local pattern-learning algorithm compares sequences of up to five previous choices. It does not call an external AI service.

Does this prove I am truly random?

No. One 100-choice round cannot prove randomness. The result depends on your choices, this particular predictor and chance. It is a game, not a psychological diagnosis.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. Tap the left or right half of the game. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys or F and J.

This randomness test is an informal game, not a scientific assessment of personality, intelligence or mental health.
