Rhythm Tester

Playable

The music stops. Your beat doesn't.

Rhythm Tester is a free online rhythm test with one simple question: can you keep time when the music disappears? A beat plays, you tap along, and then everything goes silent. Keep tapping at the same tempo and land exactly on the beat when the music comes back.

Survive the silence and the track returns bigger, with chords, arpeggios, claps and a lead melody joining in. Every round the silence gets longer: 2 beats, then 4, 8, 12, 16 and beyond. Your score is the longest stretch of total silence you held the beat through.

It works as a keep the beat game, a quick beat test and a way to see whether you really got rhythm. Play in your browser on desktop or phone, with no account or download. Sound on — headphones help. Once you know your timing, put it to work in Beat//Shift or keep the beat with a staff in Bō Smash.

How to play

Press Start and listen to the first bar. Then tap once on every click — four taps per bar — using Space, any key or a tap on the screen.

After the 4, 3, 2, 1 countdown the music cuts out. Keep tapping at the same tempo through the silence. A dot ring around the orb shows how many silent beats you have covered.

Tap too early, too late, twice or not at all and the run ends. Your result shows how many seconds you held the beat, your rank, your longest combo and whether you tend to rush or drag.

A rhythm tester for your internal clock

Most rhythm games let you lean on the music. This rhythm tester takes it away. Without a click to follow, you have to rely on your internal sense of tempo, and small errors add up fast. Drift a fraction early on every tap and you will be rushing well before the silence ends.

The tempo is picked at random between 88 and 120 BPM each run, so you cannot just memorize one speed. The game also calibrates to your taps during the music, which helps compensate for audio and screen delay on your device.

Keep the beat game, round by round

Each tap is graded Perfect, Great or Good depending on how close it lands. The timing window narrows a little as rounds go on. Clear a silence and the room flips back to color, a new musical layer joins and the next silence is longer.

Ranks run from Lost in the silence and Finding the pocket to Steady hands, Session drummer, Human metronome and Atomic clock. Your best time is saved in this browser so you can come back and beat it.

Read your beat test result

The chart plots every tap from your last silence above or below the beat line, with a band showing what counted as on time. The Tendency stat tells you whether you were steady, rushing or dragging on average — useful if you play music, dance or just want to know if you got rhythm.

Tip: tap your foot or nod along, count the beats in your head and keep your taps relaxed. Tension makes most players speed up.

FAQ

What is a rhythm tester?

A rhythm tester measures how well you keep a steady beat. In this one you tap along to a beat, then keep going in total silence and must land on time when the music returns.

How is this different from other keep the beat games?

Most keep the beat games show or play the beat the whole time. Here the beat disappears, and each silence is longer than the last, so it tests your internal tempo.

Is the Rhythm Tester free?

Yes. Play free in your browser on desktop or mobile, with no account or download.

Does it save my best score?

Yes. Your best time is stored in this browser when local storage is available.

Is this a musical ability test?

No. It is a game, not a formal assessment. Device audio delay, headphones and focus can all affect your result.
