Guess the Review

Playable

Five-star praise. One-star complaints. One mystery to solve.

Guess the Review is a free browser guessing game where the customer reviews are the clues. Read a wildly opinionated review, look at the category and the blank letter tiles, then work out what is being reviewed. The answer might be an animal, an invention, a place, a movie or something from everyday life.

One-star complaints and five-star praise can describe the same subject from completely different angles. These funny reviews are fictional: nobody actually left a customer review of the Roman Empire. The joke is in treating familiar things as if they were listings in a map app, then asking you to decode the praise and outrage.

There are 50 mysteries to solve. Each offers up to five reviews, but every extra clue costs one potential star. Guess early for a bigger reward, or read another review when the first customer is making absolutely no sense. Play free on desktop or phone, without a download or account. Like estimating with incomplete clues? You can also guess the price of everyday and absurd items.

How to play

Read the category and the first review, then use the letter tiles to see the shape of the hidden answer. Type your guess and press Guess, or use Enter.

Need another clue? Choose Next review. Each additional review reduces the available reward by one star, and there are up to five reviews per mystery.

A correct answer earns the remaining stars and builds your streak. A wrong answer earns no stars and breaks the streak. Check the revealed answer, then choose Next to tackle another mystery.

A funny twist on the who am I game

If you enjoy a classic who am I game or what am I riddles, the deduction will feel familiar. Instead of a neat list of facts, you get suspiciously specific customer opinions. Ask yourself what experience could explain the complaint, which details are literal and which are part of the joke.

The category and answer length help narrow things down. History, Animals, Inventions, Space, Movies, Food, Places, Travel and Everyday life all appear, so do not assume every review describes a shop or restaurant.

One-star reviews, five-star clues

A bad review is not necessarily a bad clue. An absurd complaint can expose the answer faster than glowing praise, while a delighted reviewer may focus on a detail you completely overlooked. Read for the hidden connection rather than taking the star rating at face value.

You get one submitted guess per mystery. Take another clue when you need it: a smaller reward for a correct answer still beats confidently reviewing the wrong thing. Spaces and punctuation are ignored when answers are checked, and longer answers allow a small one-character typo.

Fifty mysteries you can return to

The opening mysteries introduce the idea with the Roman Empire, geese and a microwave. After those, the game picks from the remaining unplayed subjects at random. Finish all 50 and choose Play them again for a fresh run.

Your progress, total stars, streak and current clues are saved in this browser when local storage is available. Come back on the same device and browser to continue; progress is not shared between devices.
